The Heart of Jacksonville African Violet Society is a non-profit group founded in 1992.
We are affiliate members of the African Violet Society of America, the Dixie African Violet Society and the African Violet Council of Florida.
We have fun getting together to learn about the care and growing of the most popular house plant, African violets. Some of our members are novices and some are experienced, seasoned fanciers of violets. Our experienced members assist other members in learning how to grow beautiful African violets and other Gesneriads. While sharing our passion for violets, we have formed life-long friendships from the common love of these beautiful little plants.
We have two parties each year – Christmas; and Summer (June). Sometimes, during the summer break, we may have a plant swapping party as well. Check the Events & Meeting Pages to keep up to date with all the fun things our club has planned.
At our meetings, we have plant and supply raffles and educational programs. Our club is our very favorite place to acquire and share violets. Before & after the meetings, members may purchase special soils, fertilizers, supplies and pots. And, best of all, supplies are discounted 50% to members.
Each year we have a judged show & sale. Our Annual African Violet Show and Sale is held at San Jose Church of Christ, 6233 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32217. This is a 2 day event that is usually held at the end of March each year. (always check our Events Page for the most current information) Throughout the year we participate in several community Arts & Crafts shows selling plants and supplies. We invite you to be our guest. Meetings are held every 3rd Sunday of the month (September – May) at the Garden Club of Jacksonville, 1005 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida. Please check the Meetings Page to verify meeting dates as, on occasion, our meeting date may be in conflict with another event at the Garden Club & may have to be moved to an alternate Sunday.
All new members receive a single membership kit ($20 value). Family members will share. The kits will include: some basic tools, soil, fertilizer, a description of our preferred watering method (wick watering) as well as some educational material. Annual membership dues are: $25 for an individual & $10 for each additional family member. After initially joining, dues are collected each September.
